Antivirus Performance Test Result – October 2008

Av Comparatives released a new antivirus performance test result. This performance test result is tested on Octorber 2008.

5. eScan Anti-virus 9.0
6. ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus 2009
7. F-Secure Anti-Virus 2009
8. G DATA AntiVirusKit (AVK) 2009
9. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009
10. McAfee VirusScan Plus 12.1
11. Microsoft OneCare 2.5
12. Normal Antivirus & Anti-Spyware 7.1
13. Sophos Endpoint Protection 7.5.1
14. Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 2009
15. TrustPort Antivirus Workstation 2.8
16. VBA32 Scanner for Windows 3.12.8.2

Four methods are used to test the above 16 antivirus product.

1) File Copying Test
2) Archiving & Unarchiving Test
3) Encoding & Transcoding Test
4) Boot time Test

This test is ranked by the additional delay to a system (no anti-virus install) compared to the same system with installed Anti-Virus Software.

Overall Performnace Result

According to AV-Comparatives performance test result, ESET has highest ranking in performance, follow by Symantect, however lowest ranking is F-Secure. F-Secure is using multiple engines in scan process, which may be the reason why it slower than the others (single-engine) products.
